Tower Hamlets LBC
Campaign of the Year
About This Entry
Entry Title
Ofsted rated 'good' campaign
Entry Description
In July 2019, Tower Hamlets Council’s Children’s Services achieved a good rating from Ofsted. This was a significant achievement after receiving an inadequate rating in April 2017. Our challenge was to tell our story and flag other key council improvements in line with our communications strategy. Engaging key stakeholders was crucial. Objectives: • To communicate our Ofsted improvement and celebrate with stakeholders. • To connect the Ofsted success to a wider council narrative around culture change. • To showcase innovation and facilities offered by our Children’s Services. • To recognise staff and celebrate internally the ‘one council’ approach which made this success possible

This award is open to a single council or where appropriate a partnership of councils, or a council-owned company. Private sector partners can enter on a council’s behalf, with the permission of the council itself.
The communications function is more integral to what councils do than ever. Influencing behaviour – in relation to, for example, recycling, transport or looking out for older neighbours – is increasingly important, as is the need to build trust in the difficult decisions councils have to take in these challenging times. Campaigns can make a significant contribution to achieving these objectives, and this award is designed to showcase councils’ expertise in this area.
