Pension funds were created to fulfil the social function of providing retirement income to individuals who’d worked all their lives. However, thinking about the workforce that sit behind a portfolio of investments appears to be overlooked, despite the widespread championing of ESG over the last decade. In this session, we will discuss why we believe in the importance of human capital, the positive outcomes that focus can achieve, and reflects on how pension fund investors can begin to incorporate social metrics in their governance frameworks
