** A WELCOME LETTER FROM LGC FEATURES EDITOR, MARTIN GEORGE**

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the in-person LGC Investment & Pensions Summit. It’s been a long time!

You don’t need me to tell you how strange and challenging the last 18 months have been, but I nevertheless want to recognise how committed and resilient the LGPS community has proved to be during the pandemic.

Early in the pandemic Jeff Houston noted how this was the only crisis in the scheme’s history to hit admin, governance and funding and investment equally hard, and at the same time. The LGPS can be proud of how it has come through the worst of the storm, and continued to serve the millions of members who rely on it.

As a quick look at the programme shows, while the pandemic put much of our lives on hold, it certainly did not put on hold the many issues facing the LGPS, and I hope you will enjoy exploring these throughout our time in Leeds.

After so many months of communicating via screens, it is hugely exciting to be able to come together in person. So I really hope that as well as getting the most out of the formal programme, you will enjoy this long-delayed opportunity to catch up with old colleagues, make new contacts and friends, and simply relish living life in the real world again.
