Information

This is valuation year for the English & Welsh Funds, however rather than talking about results (since these will vary greatly at individual employer level anyway) we thought it would be interesting to comb through the member data from a slightly different perspective: what is this data telling us about the LGPS and how it is evolving?

• The following are just suggestions at this stage: the actual content will depend heavily on what the actual data actually tells us!

• Are there pension gaps by gender / region / employer type? If so, how material, why might they have arisen?

• Health & longevity – where do gaps & trends arise?

• LGPS asset pot size per member, now vs (say) 20 years ago, what that would have bought in the open insurance market, what does this tell us about the value of the LGPS for both employers & members?

• What has inflation done to members’ benefits vs pay rises?

• Are there inter-generational issues implicit in the LGPS benefit structure & cost cap?
